Patient Caretakers

Professional caretaker caring for a patient

Recovering at home is easier with a trained caretaker beside you. HomeStaff patient caretakers look after post-surgery patients, chronically ill family members, elderly parents and bedridden loved ones — with the patience, hygiene discipline and basic nursing support that hospitals recommend. From sponge baths and medication reminders to mobility assistance and physiotherapy support, our caretakers take the physical and emotional weight off the family so you can focus on being family.

What Our Patient Caretakers Do

A typical patient caretaker’s day follows the patient’s medical routine: assisting with bathing, dressing and toileting, preparing soft meals per the diet plan, reminding and recording medication, helping with walking frames or wheelchair transfers, changing sleeping position for bedridden patients every two hours to prevent bedsores, and keeping the sick room clean and ventilated. They accompany patients to hospital visits and report changes in condition to the family promptly.

How We Verify

Caretaker screening includes police clearance and identity checks, plus our care-specific interview: scenario questions on falls, fever, feeding a semi-conscious patient and emergency response, and reference calls with previous patient families. Where families require it, we prioritise candidates with hospital-attendant or LHV experience. Every placement includes a supervised first day, and our 24-hour replacement guarantee applies.

FAQs

Can the caretaker give injections or change dressings?

Our caretakers provide basic nursing support — reminders, hygiene, mobility. Clinical procedures like injections and wound dressing must be done by a licensed nurse; we can help arrange one alongside the caretaker.

Do you have caretakers for night shifts only?

Yes. Twelve-hour night attendants are common for dementia and fall-risk patients. Pricing is quoted per shift pattern.

What if the patient’s condition worsens?

The caretaker reports to the family immediately and accompanies the patient to hospital when needed. We ask every family to keep us informed so we can adjust the care plan.

Can the caretaker cook for the patient?

Yes. Soft diets, diabetic meals and low-salt plans are prepared by the caretaker under the diet chart you or the hospital provide.

Can we hire for just two weeks after surgery?

Yes. Short-term post-operative care of one to four weeks is one of our most requested services and is quoted per case.
